The 4th Annual "Celebrating Sally" 5K & Memorial Mile

  • Where: East Penn Manufacturing, 102 Deka Rd., Fleetwood, PA
  • When: Sat., June 16th at 9am - 12pm
  • Cost: $25 - $30

After double Rotary club fun in the first week, Berks County is hitting the ground running with the Celebrating Sally 5K & Memorial Mile. Just outside of the quaint hamlet of Lyons is East Penn Manufacturing, and every year they've hosted a run in honor of Sally Miksiewicz, who was once the CEO and Vice Chairman of East Penn Mfg. In honor of her work and her deepest passion of helping others further their education, the company hosts the run to raise money for the Sally Breidegam Miksiewicz Scholarship for Moravian College. Now, in its 4th year, you can contribute to the scholarship, run with others, and help the community while getting a healthy run at the same time! In addition to the 5K and the Memorial Mile, East Penn is also hosting a Chinese Auction after the race and even offers free photography for all racers. With the summer weather just around the corner, but better way would there be to soak in the sun than by helping the community and running with friends?

Unfortunetly that big bang from the fireworks marks the end of the first Best of Berks edition. Are you excited about the featured events as much as we are? Are you curious to see more of what the county has to offer? This edition might be tucked to bed but there are dozens on dozens of events to explore! Check out the BerksCal main calendar to see all the events coming in the future. You might even find a great event for your father on this coming Fathers Day.

That's the same reason why this edition was late out of the gate, among other things. Owning up to a past mistake, I (Daniel Smith) want to apologize for this edition being late. As mentioned in the Memorial Day 2018 blog post, this post was supposed to hit the page by Sunday morning. A serving of family affairs, a dash of power-knocking rain, and sprinkle of Fathers Day event scouting pushed this edition back. For that, I thank everyone for waiting for this post. Family plans have been scheduled for, the skies looking clearer for the future, and I even have a special Fathers Day post planned for Fathers Day weekend coming up! So be sure to check into BerksCal's Best of Berks by this Sunday, June 17th, at 9am to see the 2nd edition of Best of Berks.

With that squared, we at BerksCal hope you have an amazing two weeks ahead in Berks County, June, and in all you do. It's been a pleasure to write for you all, and I will see you in the next edition. Rotary away your routines, make a dash for the best events, and I hope everyone hits a home run in all they do. See you in the next post!
